Setting your goals, thanks to the SMART eco method +
In order to achieve your project, the proper formulation of your goal and its implementation are the keys to your success. This sheet will help you to :
- Find the right formulation of an objective, according to the SMART method
- Add the essential notion of objective ecology
- Formulate it in a positive way to make it more impactful
- Link this objective to an action plan
- Specific: well defined, clear, understandable and detailed.
- Measurable: quantitative or qualitative indicators to measure progress and success.
- Achievable: enough to motivate and challenge you, achievable.
- Realistic: reasonably possible to achieve. Not discouraging.
- Temporal: date or timeframe to get it (and eventually start).
- ECO: Achieving the goal should not go against your values.
- + : Formulate it in a positive way.
Writing a goal allows you to ask yourself what you really want, to ask yourself what is a priority for you. As a result, the goal :
- gives you a vision, a result to achieve. By visualising it in your head, it will be easier to make it concrete.
- will guide you on the way, encouraging you and giving meaning to your daily actions.
- will prevent you from spreading yourself too thin and wasting your energy on unnecessary actions. Does this action bring me closer to my goal?
- is a source of motivation, but more importantly it will give you a great source of satisfaction in its realisation.
PUTTING IT INTO PRACTICE
1. The principle of the SMART method
Here are some tips on how to set SMART goals:
- Specific: A good goal must be specific, so that it can be accomplished. Break down your overall goal into something specific.
- Measurable: So that you can measure the achievement of your goal.
- Achievable: If the goal is too difficult to achieve, chances are you just won't get there. Adopt a policy of small steps. It's better to set an easy goal and get there (before moving on to the next one), than to get stuck on an unreasonable ambition.
- Realistic: Make sure you have the means (or the opportunity) to achieve this goal.
- Timely: We all know that without a deadline, procrastination is just around the corner. So set a specific (and realistic) date to achieve it.
Examples of SMART goals:
- In one month, I have freed up 2 hours each week to meet the weekly team meeting by blocking time slots over the quarter, without increasing my work time.
- By the end of the week (Friday, 12:00 p.m.), I will have completed the preparation of my employees' evaluations and will have sent them an invitation with a minimum of two weeks' lead time so that they can prepare, while managing my daily priorities.
2. What is a "green" objective?
Green auditing is about making sure that in the goal that is given :
- The impact to you is neutral or even positive.
- Allows you to keep what you want to keep.
The notion of ecology is used to ensure that the objective is not mistaken by checking the interactions between the objective and the parties involved.
3. What is a "+" goal?
- Set your goal in terms of what you want to achieve, not what you want to
- Eliminate or avoid. Assess the challenge.
- Formulate it in a positive way, with positive phrases.
- Make sure that the outcome is entirely up to you.
4. Translate your objective into an action plan.
- Establish a coordinated and coherent succession of actions that will allow you to achieve the objective.
- Each action will be assigned to 1 or more weekly plan periods.
- The chronology of the actions will be coherent, actions being necessarily preliminary.
In any action, it is necessary to keep in mind the objective pursued.

Construct a detailed plan that will indicate the expected date for reaching the goal, the set of actions to reach the goal, and the assignment of actions for each week.
